After enduring 9 months of pregnancy, and in anticipation of life with a new baby, mom might enjoy a little pampering herself. A baby shower provides a great opportunity to remind her that although she will be very busy, she also needs to take care of herself and take a little time to relax. Some of the most well received gifts I have given over the years are often theme gifts. I wrapped two childrens books about puddles and rain with an umbrella and duck rain coat to give to my sister-in-law and loved the reaction from everyone. And my niece looked adorable in it!

It's always good to think ahead too. Babies grow out of clothing and simple toys quickly so consider giving a gift that is for a 6-12 month-old or even 2-3 year-old. I remember receiving a sleeper for my daughter in size 2 and thinking "that's huge" and I couldn't imagine her growing in to it -- but she did -- and I was greatful to have a new few items around as she grew.
